Outreach on the Radio
US Military Veteran Outreach
This radio spot was on Austin community radio station KOOP 97.1 with the veteran-focused show called Boots on the Air hosted by Greg Ciotti. Dr. Loriene Roy and I spoke about the scholarship program called Reaching Those Who Served at the UT Austin, iSchool, Library and Archives Program.
Reflection: I love being able to do outreach in the community in order to make this world a more equitable place, especially in the realm of higher education.
Outreach for Title I, TX Public Schools
This was a series of community projects I began in 2013 called Envision. Design. Create. The mission was to elevate Title I public schools in Texas through nature, technology, art, and music.
I was able to partner with people, companies, and organizations like The Home Depot, Ricky Williams Foundation, Big Don, DJ Zetroc, DJ Notion, Sims Elem PTA, Emerald Garden, Austin Music Foundation, Strait Music, Soundcheck Austin, TFR Enterprises, and Keep Austin Beautiful.
Reflection: I was so young in this interview on KOOP's Idea Lounge, but I feel that it reflects my soul well. Since then I have also learned more about creating agency for communities to speak their OWN truth instead of others doing it.
